Heart

Bayou Community Foundation collaborates with donors to create a vibrant and diverse Lafourche, Terrebonne and Grand Isle community where all can thrive.

Look at these smiles!! As Hurricane Francine came ashore, 52 families in Dulac, South Lafourche and Grand Isle enjoyed the safety of their new FORTIFIED Gold storm resilient homes built by Bayou Community Foundation, our volunteer building partners Mennonite Disaster Service Storm Aid and CARE, and local contractors since Hurricane Ida. We are so excited to report that all of the homes passed the Francine test with flying colors and families like the Parfaits, Trosclairs, Billiots and Soleys are so grateful! In 2019, the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes, Inc. - FLASH gathered its generous partners to create the STRONG HOMES program. Strong Homes provides affordable, resilient recovery reconstruction upgrades for those hardest hit by disaster, and who often find it nearly impossible to recover. After Hurricane Ida, FLASH joined forces with Bayou Community Foundation and Mennonite Disaster Service to provide free engineering services, construction evaluations, and product discounts/donations to ensure that our housing recovery new builds would meet the nation’s highest wind construction standard—FORTIFIED Gold. As just shown in Hurricane Francine, FORTIFIED Gold homes are proven performers in disasters and reduce most insurable risks. Owners enjoy annual insurance discounts but, most importantly, homes that keep families like our friends pictured here safe and sound when disasters strike.
